Rough-out Gaming Saddle

Another project started before the remodel! This goes with the gag bit I showed you last time.

I love the way it turned out! There's more to do, of course.  The cinch is drying right now, and I still need to do the breastcollar, finish the bridle, and make the sport medicine boots.  I had forgotten just how much I love working on projects that don't involve deposits, deadlines, or customer expectations! Not that I don't love my customers, too, there's just a wonderful freedom in doing things for myself.  It's a great way to let out some creativity.

  1. Oooh yes, this is NICE! It would look stunning on a chestnut I think.

  2. The color scheme is fabulous! I can only imagine how freeing it is to make something for yourself on your own schedule- I don't think I could ever take commissions, even if I eventually have the skills.

  3. I love this set - just make it look a bit "dirty" and it could be on a real gaming horse!

  4. Thanks for the lovely comments!

That's where I was headed, Elise. I kept the dye on the skirt a little streaky on purpose, but I'm not sure I have the guts to dirty it up any further! Today I got the boots out of the way, and ohmigosh I don't think I'll EVER be without Aileene's Tack It Over and Over glue. WOW. Itty bitty sport medicine boots have met their match!

  5. Is that your personal copy of the stone cutting resin? I have one that I'd love to get a saddle on! Future reference question. :)

  6. You bet it is, Jessica! I got her for a pretty good price and was absolutely thrilled! It's such a fun model.

  8. The green is actually salvaged from an old wallet!

  9. WOW! How creative. I never would have thought of that but in retrospect I can certainly think of a few wallets I've owned that would have been fantastic for model horse tack material.

  10. And now I'll be on the lookout for leather goods to cut to bits :) But that green really is gorgeous- I love color on tack!! Wouldn't it just be perfect on a creamy buckskin?
Excellent work, I LOVE the set!!
